(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 25, 2012 ) Chicago, IL – Look around any home and chances are it is filled with 'stuff'. Items bought because the owner wanted them but now just hangs on to for old time's sake. Over time, these items build up and soon enough, people are living in clutter.
According to the many courses and books now appearing online and in stores, these possessions are cluttering up not only people’s homes, but their lives too. Decluttering has become all the rage. Decluttering is seen as a way to simplify anyone’s life, their home and thus get more done. It seems to work too! It has a lot of devoted converts.
And that's great. It's great that people are moving away from a consumerist society and want to get back to what is important. But when they declutter, bear in mind that they could also help someone else at the same time too.
This is where grnflea.com comes in. "Years ago, when people wanted to get rid of their 'stuff' they would hold a yard sale," said Michael Jeongco, Founder of grnflea.com. "They would sell things they no longer needed or go along to buy things that their neighbors no longer wanted. Quite often, it was a simple give and take with no money exchanged.
"Imagine that! No money changing hands, just an exchange of items. Give and take. We loved this idea and wanted to make it available to everyone, both people who want to declutter and people who need items for their homes.
"We created grnflea.com to provide a safe, responsible service where anyone can post their unwanted goods and others can peruse the listings to find just what they need. We all know that one man's trash is another man's treasure; we just help people put this into practice.
Unlike other, online recycling sites, grnflea.com has no geographical boundaries. "We wanted everyone to be able to benefit from this site. We have an excellent postal service, so why not let people use it to get goods they want?"
People can either arrange to hand over their items in a public place, as they do with other sites, or they can be shipped (at the recipient's cost) anywhere in the country via UPS, USPS and FedEx.
"It's no harder than listing an item to sell on EBay or Amazon and is a lot more rewarding, in a personal sense. You post your item and then others click on a link to 'request' it. You, as the giver, get to decide who gets your item. And of course the more you give, the more you are likely to receive should you, in turn, need something.
"It really is a win-win situation. You get rid of your stuff and declutter your home and your life, while others can find the items they need for free, or at most, for shipping costs. It just seems to us to be the most environmentally friendly and people friendly way to declutter our homes and our lives, find new homes for our possessions and help each other."
