(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 09, 2012 ) Chicago, IL – A faith-based cause initiative will be announced at the alumni association’s annual Donald Hubert Hall of Fame Gala May 10, 2012 at the Chicago Hyatt Regency.
President Tate will be introduced at the Hall of Fame Gala by Master of Ceremonies and the National Director of the initiative titled, the “Sustainable Giving Program,” Mr. Jerome Barney, Esq., a 1967 graduate.
Through the Hales community’s pledge of utility service transfers, the association will raise the goal of $500,000 necessary to continue the Hales Franciscan successful tradition of education and mentoring.
“We will reach our goal of $500,000 by acquiring 5,000 utility pledge customers,” prefaced President Tate. “And, with the help of the Hales’ community this will be accomplished by the end of this year.”
Following President Tate’s announcement at the Donald Hubert Gala, the attending alumni and guests will be asked to fill out their pledge cards and then take the message of “compassionate consumption” to the community at large. An ensuing mailing will be sent to all Hales Franciscan alumni requesting the same pledge of participation.
Hales is an independent Catholic school dedicated to the Franciscan tradition of providing quality, value-centered education to African American males to develop the academic, personal, moral, and social skills needed to be confident leaders in the community. It is committed to offering a rigorous academic curriculum, including an International Baccalaureate program, a competitive athletic program, religious education, and pastoral, personal and college counseling.
Funding from the Alumni Association’s Faith-Based Cause Initiative, the “Sustainable Giving Program,” will endow Hales Franciscan to raise its academic offerings and increase enrollment as it addresses a national concern for overhauling education and improving academic performance.
“Compassionate Consumption” is the radical concept of giving to meet social challenges today and tomorrow. Peter Hirsch defines compassionate consumption in “Living the Significant Life: 12 Principles for Making a Difference,” a book he co-authored with Robert Shemin. Hirsch admits in the book’s epilog that traditional giving will not solve global needs. “It’s going to take a new type of thinking. It’s going to take a new type of entrepreneur;” according to Hirsch, that would be the “Social Entrepreneur.”
For the remainder of 2012, the Alumni Association will accept utility service pledges from the public and civic organizations uniting in its “Sustainable Giving Program.”
